If your webcam isn't working,
first check the privacy settings (allow access) in Windows/Mac and look for physical covers or function keys (Fn+F6) on your laptop. Restart your PC, update drivers in Device Manager, and close any other apps that might be using the camera.
Here are the key troubleshooting steps:
Check privacy settings: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure access is enabled.
Physical switch/keyboard: Many laptops have a sliding switch for the camera or a function key (often Fn + F6 or F8 with a camera icon) to enable/disable the camera.
Update drivers: Open Device Manager, locate the camera, right-click it, and select “Update Driver.”
Close other apps: Make sure no other application (such as Skype or Zoom) is blocking the camera.
Windows Troubleshooter: Use the built-in Camera Troubleshooter under Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
USB connection: If it’s an external camera, unplug the cable and plug it back in (ideally into a different USB port).
Restart: A simple restart of the computer resolves many temporary driver conflicts.
